Spoon is made of a metalloid known as Gallium...
It is solid at room temperature, but melts a few degrees higher. The water was hot, possibly 98-99 degrees, as it was not boiling.
I'd say that's all there is to it.

I think the spoon is made of Gallium, a metal with a melting point SO LOW that it can melt in your hand!
