that box for the bikere seems counter intuitive. cyclist should have a separate lane. dividing the two types of traffic is the safest options.

It's not dumb it's for the cyclist that need to turn to the right (in the UK ofc). Here in belgium we have it for turning left. It's pretty obvious. You probably drive an audi right?

It's for safety and speed, if you are turning right it's hard to see a bike hiding behind a car coming the opposite way. Also stops the cars from trying to overtake bikes while going through the traffic lights.

This is in London, we don't exactly have the biggest roads. Dedicated lanes would be a terrible idea

The driver went around the biker, is that wrong to go around. The cyclist backup to talk mess to a driver prepared to go around. If the driver was so wrong, he should have said something when he pulled up, not back up and talk mess.
