first, i certainly respect that this kid is quick thinking under pressure, which is very impressive and laudable.

that said, it irritates me when stories like this call the person a "hero". a hero is someone who sacrifices/takes risks for the primary benefit of OTHERS. while this kid certainly saved others, he was taking actions that would also save himself.

impressive, not heroic

I have two definitions for you

the first: Hero; a man of distinguished courage or ability, admired for his brave deeds and noble qualities.

In exemple; 'that little dude is a hero'

the second: Meaningless; Having no meaning or significance.

In exemple; 'That meaningless gastropod should keep his mouth shut instead of saying sh*t about a kid who had massive balls for doing what is RIGHT, regardless of the fear and danger he might have faced that day.'

capice?

My post is about what it means to be a hero. It means more than saving your own ass.

Is this kid impressive? Yes.
Smart? Yes.
Has massive balls? Yes.
Did what's "right"? Yes.
Thinks well under pressure? Yes.
Is a bad ass? Yes.
Is a hero? Not from this vid.

He wasn't just concerned with self-preservation, look at him trying to resuscitate the bus driver, he is a hero because he knew what to do and acted fast upon it, i understand your point, i just don't think it's restricted to the merits you've pointed out.
